A glittering career sometimes hides some of the darkest stories beneath. Lolo Jones, who was the winner of the USA and World championships in hurdle events in 2013, only attained this status by putting in a lot of determination and persistence. Jones was the only child of a large family with five children, and grew up in a slum. Her mother and she lived in the cellar of the local church. It was a life that required Jones to change schools and attend the same school each calendar year, up to the point she started in high school. When she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School Jones was separated from her mother to take on track events. She lived with four different families throughout her time at high school to study all in the same place. Jones was one of the most skilled hurdlers when she started the university. She won the 100 meter hurdles during the 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championship. In addition, she was on the team who finished second in the 100-meter Relay event. Jones was the winner of the NCAA Indoor Hurdles competition in 2003 and the 2004. Jones began her track career after she completed her college studies. Jones was the winner of two events, in the Torino Memorial and the Heusden Track competitions in 2005.

Raised in Cape Town South Africa Brandt immigrated with her family to Auckland New Zealand in her late teens. Brandt was spotted by local casting agencies, became the main character Naevia on the Starz blockbusters Spartacus Blood and Sand and Spartacus Gods of the Arena. Lesley-Ann Brandt was born the 2nd of December, 1981, in Cape Town South Africa. She is an New Zealand actress with a lot of talents. Lesley Brandt and her family made the move to Auckland, New Zealand in 1999. After a few years of being employed in the retail industry, she was promoted to the position of Consultant for IT management. Lesley has performed in numerous commercial advertisements after a few modeling projects. She completed her acting major in 2008 and continues to research Meisner's techniques. Lesley Brandt's initial notable actor role was on the TV drama series Diplomatic Immunity, which aired in New Zealand. Lesley Brandt made a guest appearance in New Zealand's TV Drama Shortland Street with the character of supporting actor. Lesley Brandt played Naevia in the TV show Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Later, she played the character in the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.
